Since qualifying in McTimoney chiropractic she has been active in furthering her education with additional courses including mobilizations of the shoulder and arm, diversified chiropractic, pregnancy and pediatrics. She also has a diploma in Sports massage.
McTimoney Chiropractic
McTimoney Chiropractic assists the body with problems caused by imbalances in the bony structure of the body. Misalignments of any of the joints in the body (including spine and pelvis), can result in interference of nerve impulses leading to pain, changes in sensation or a reduced ability for the body to heal itself. This can result in increased wear and tear of joints, prolonged healing times, and a reduced capacity for the patient to reach their full potential. Pain is the body's way of telling us that something is wrong, so by ignoring it we could be doing further damage.
McTimoney Chiropractic uses precise, fast but gentle adjustments to help the body back into balance, during which the patient usually feels little or no discomfort. It is also imperative to work with the patient to identify the cause or aggravating factors of the problem and find ways of minimising further damage.
Conditions that have been shown to respond well to McTimoney Chiropractic include back, neck, and shoulder pain, sciatica, migrane, headaches, jaw/facial pain and arthritis. It is also very helpful for managing pregnancy, and because of the gentle nature of the treatment it is suitable for the very young and old.
Diversified Chiropractic
This technique uses a stronger type of adjustment than McTimoney, but has the same over all effect. These manual adjustments involve high-velocity and low-amplitude thrusts which are often accompanied by a 'clicking' or 'popping' sound (cavitation).
Each treatment session is developed according to your individual needs, whether you have an existing chronic/acute condition, or for more general wellness care (preventing injuries and problems). Techniques used will depend on each individual's needs and preferences. The initial session will involve taking a detailed history and doing a general examination of the patient in order to ascertain the root of the problem, and if chiropractic is likely to be of any help.
