What is Podiatry?

Podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of condition of the lower limb. A podiatrist can give professional advice on prevention of foot problems and proper care of the feet. Podiatrists are qualified to treat people of all ages with long- term medical conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, sports injuries and perform nail surgery.

Treatments range from general foot care, including callus and corn reduction and nail care, to biomechanical assessments, which may identify any gait or MSK disorders that can be treated with orthotic therapy. Appointments will involve an initial consultation and detailed medical history and treatment options will be discussed to suit individual needs and requirements.

In addition to working at Castle Clinic Sarah works at a clinic in Thirsk and is able to offer home visits around the Knaresborough and Harrogate areas.

Sarah regularly attends courses to update and expand her knowledge and is committed to Continual Professional Development.

Foot Health

Foot health is available to everyone, adults and children. The average person takes 10,000 steps per day and the foot has an important part to play in our everyday lives.

Treatment is for a wide range of foot health problems and disorders. Some patients require treatment on a regular 6-8 weeks others may require a general tidy and check up or a course of treatment for a specific problem.

The average person takes 10000 steps per day and the foot is made up of 26 bones and 23 muscles therefore has an important role to play in our everyday lives. It is important that our feet are well maintained and healthy, which is the aim of a foot healthcare professional.

Appointments last 45 minutes and an initial consultation may require up to 1 hour to ensure that a thorough foot examination is conducted and a detailed medical history is taken.

The stages of treatment are discussed with each patient to suit individual needs and requirements. Treatments will include nail clipping and removal of any corns and callus and end with a therapeutic foot massage.
